Mission
SquintingInDarkness.com is a blog dedicated to help educate friends and families of those who are on the autism spectrum on what it is like living with the condition. The mission is to debunk the ASD stereotypes as well as to prove to society that everyone has a voice and a place in the world no matter what their situation may be.
About Clara
Clara was born in Kansas and brought up in Colorado. She enjoys art, biking, volunteering, and spending time with her therapy dog. She is also the writer of this blog. Once being diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome back in 2013 it explained why she had such a difficult time with verbal communication so she started using writing as a tool to connect with others. In 2019 she got the amazing opportunity to speak at the Autism conference at Colorado State University to share her story. Many people gave her love and support throughout that experience. That was when she knew she needed to educate more individuals on Autism and get her story out there. She hopes you enjoy reading her articles as much as she does making them.

What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong neurological difference that affects how people communicate and relate to others based on their sense of the world. The condition comes with many challenges as well as many gifts. It is a very wide spectrum, meaning that no two people have it in the same form. About 1 in 59 people in the USA have an Autism diagnosis and anyone could be born with it.
Keep in mind
Clara does not know what it feels like to be every single person with ASD. She only knows what it’s like to be herself. The articles on this blog are based on her own experiences. What one thing is for her does not mean it's the same way for everyone else. On the other hand, she has had many experiences working with those all over the spectrum and has an open mind for various opinions.
