By Clara H ![]() Ever since I was young, most of the things I've heard about autism seemed to be negative. People are always reminding me of the things I struggle with instead of the great things. I thought now would be a good time to share some of my favorite things about being a part of the autism community because it seems like we all could use some happy thoughts in our lives right now. Many people don't realize that there is something good in everything even if it's difficult to find.

![]() By Clara H Common statements I get told are, "why are you covering your ears?" and "It's not loud to me". Many individuals on the autism spectrum experience volume differently than neurotypicals. Most of us may not even realize that our way of interpreting sound is not the same as most. Which I frankly do not understand how people can go a day without pressing their hands over their ears, so it is hard for me to explain it without thinking about the reasons. After I had some thought and did research I came up with a great way to describe it. By Clara H ![]() Recently, I posted a question on a Facebook group for those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The question I asked was “What is something that seems obvious to Neurotypical (non-Autistic) people but is shocking to you?” So many people responded with great answers. I will try my best to talk about them all on my website. Starting off, this blog post will be focused on understanding eye contact and the ability to read emotions through ones eyes. By Clara H ![]() People watching is something I am constantly doing without even realizing it. In the school cafeteria I enjoy sitting alone so I can look at people. When I watch movies and TV shows I tend to look at the extras in the background. I do this because I live life off of mimicking behaviors so I can blend in. |
